Lakeland recently hired Tom Wogomon to fill the vacant coaching position. Wogomon comes to Lakeland with an extensive 32-year coaching background, 16 of which were dedicated to being the head coach. Wogomon was awarded three Northern Lakes Conference Coach of the Year awards (2010 (Wawasee), 2013 (NR), and 2017 (NR)) and had an undefeated year in 2017, with Northridge (NR) clinching the NLC Championship. Wogomon led NR to a Sectional and Regional Title during his 2014 coaching season; during that same season, Wogomon was awarded the “Indiana North-South All-Star Coach”. Additionally, Wawasee was the NLC runner-up team in 2010 and 2011, with NR following suit in 2013, 2014, and 2020, all under the direction of Tom Wogomon. During his interview, Wogomon outlined three principles for a successful team: “Be a person of character, hang on to your passion, and treat others how you want to be treated (golden rule)... without these three rules, success on the field is impossible.” We are excited to welcome Wogomon to the staff, carrying these beliefs and working to capitalize on the potential of our boys of fall. In addition to his coaching history, Wogomon sports a lengthy educational background. He obtained a Bachelor of Science from Ball State University in 1992 and a Master's Degree from Indiana University in 2011. Wogomon resides in LaGrange County with his wife, Maria, and enjoys time with his children: Josh (Emily) Wogomon, Hannah (Jake) Berkey, Emma Wogomon, and grandchildren Lyla and Hunter Berkey. Wogomon outlined these three program goals: “1. Graduate young men from high school. 2. Develop “People of Character.” 3. Lead others in our school, conference and community.” He says that developing an identity is crucial for his first year at Lakeland; he wants to “be known for our hitting, out hustle our opponents, and be the most physical team on the field.” We are excited to welcome Mr. Tom Wogomon to our team and look forward to the success of our program under his care. Please extend a warm welcome to Tom Wogomon, Laker Nation!
