LaGrange, IN — Lakeland School Corporation is proud to announce the hiring of Melissa Bateman as the new Head Varsity Softball Coach for Lakeland High School. Bateman brings more than a decade of coaching experience and a deep connection to both the sport and the Lakeland community. For the past six years, she has been running and organizing the LaGrange Softball program, where she has helped grow the program and inspire countless young athletes. “Coaching softball has always been a true passion of mine, and when this position became available, I knew it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” said Bateman. “It’s a chance to take my love of the game to the next level.” A proud Lakeland alum, Bateman played softball for the Lakers more than 20 years ago under the guidance of Coach Sherry Severson. “Some of my best high school memories were made on that field,” she shared. “The game taught me countless life lessons that I still carry with me today.” Looking ahead, Bateman is eager to continue building a strong and successful program that starts with developing young talent. Her goals include organizing youth camps and pitching clinics to grow enthusiasm for the game within the community. “Lakeland has some incredible talent, and I’m truly excited for the future of Lakeland Softball,” Bateman said. “Most importantly, I want to build strong relationships with my players and help them develop the same love and passion for the game that has meant so much to me throughout my life.” Lakeland School Corporation looks forward to the upcoming season under Coach Bateman’s leadership and is excited to see the continued growth and success of the softball program.
